I didn’t know that 2

March 5, 2025 Comments Off on I didn’t know that 2

It’s time for a light bit of educational information, most of which we could all do without but which can be mildly entertaining. Here are some fun facts:

  • The honeybee has to travel an average of 49,000 miles (77,000 km.) to collect enough nectar to make a pound of honey. (Now you can understand why honey is so expensive.)
  • The electric chair was invented by a dentist.
  • Thomas Edison, who invented the lightbulb, was afraid of the dark. (No wonder he invented it.)
  • Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards.
  • Dogs are color-blind.
  • It takes more muscles to frown than to smile. So keep smiling!
  • Tomatoes are actually fruits, not vegetables. (Really?) But don’t throw them into a fruit salad.
  • The moon is smaller than Australia.
  • Antarctica is the world’s largest desert.
  • A group of owls is called a parliament. (How distinguished!) A group of flamingos is called a flamboyance. (Love those pink feathers) A group of crows is called – ready for this?- a murder. (Did you see the movie?)
  • Your eyes can recognize 10 million colors. (Who counted them?)
  • The human brain is 75% water. Some say 80%. Use what’s left well!
  • 111,111,111 X 111,111,111=12,345,678,987,654,321. (In case you ever need to know that)
  • The average person will accidentally eat just under a pound of insects every year.
  • For every human on earth there are 1.8 million ants. (Well no wonder we swallow so many insects!)
  • Leonardo da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time. (Just try to do that)
  • March 8 is International Women’s Day
  • March 14 is the birthday of Albert Einstein
  • And here’s a real fun fact: Winter is actually good for you! Cold weather can boost your immune system and help burn more calories since your body works harder to stay warm.
